The people at Athens were twisted in their mind. What they thought was the truth was a lie. On Paul’s journeys one of the towns he visited was Athens. As he walked through the town he was shocked. Everywhere he walked he could see idols, Idols, IDOLS!!! Paul went to reason with the people but all they said was “What is this man babbling about?” The people thought he was bringing strange ideas to their head. Paul told them that they were worshiping foreign Gods but the people refused to believe him. As Paul kept on walking through the town he came across an alter that said ‘The Unknown God’. Paul knew straightaway that the unknown God was our God up in heaven. The people at Athens were so concentrated on their idols they didn’t know who this mysterious God was. Then Paul went to the people of Athens and said to them, “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. For in him we live and move and have our being,”. Paul went on speaking and told them about the resurrection, but when the people heard this they sneered and refused to believe but others wanted to hear him again on that subject. When Paul finished speaking many of them believed and were baptised.
We must learn to not be take away by our lusts it to stand firm with God…
This story gives lessons and words that tell you that it is not too late to change your ways of thinking about God. There was once a man called Saul, he worshiped at the feet of Gamalliel and was one of the most knowledgeable people in Jerusalem. Saul hated the Christians because they believed that Jesus was resurrected but Saul himself did not share this belief. Saul sent men into every house of those who believed in Jesus and killed them all, women and children. One day Saul and some of his men were travelling along the road to Damascus when a bright light shone blinding Saul. His men brought him to Damascus where he slept for three days and three nights without food or drink. A certain man called Ananias got told by God in a vision to go and baptise Saul. Saul then went and preached to the people in Damascus.
Gods lesson for us
Even those who do evil and persecute Jesus can be changed. Only when Saul was blinded he had time to think and change his actions and ways about what he thought about God. Its never to late for us to be converted…
Stephan was a faithful and holy man. He preached the gospel to everyone about and the Holy Spirit increased by people talking about it all around and saying how wonderful it was. Most people in Jerusalem were becoming followers of Christ and getting baptized. (even the priests!) Stephanos was his real name which meant victor. He started doing miracles like healing the blind, making deaf people hear, causing the lame to walk. The people were beginning to believe more and more in Jesus. The priests started to tell lies about Stephan and arouse trouble. They said wrong things about the bible but Stephan stood up to them and proved them wrong. The priests started to bribe men into telling lies about Stephan and they said “He is saying Blasphemy”. Stephanos got taken to a court room of 70 mean people plus the high priest. Saul was sitting in the group and later in the story will become Paul. They were all shouting at him when a miracle happened. Stephan glowed like an Angel! God was on his side. Stephan began telling things about Israels history to prove God was true and faithful despite Israels unfaithfulness and treacherous behavior starting with these:
Acts 7 – Stephan witnesses God is True
- God made Promises to Abraham
- Sold Joseph as a Slave
- Israel became slaves in Egypt
- God Saves Israel out of Egypt
- Jacob buried in the Promised land
- Moses was skilled in all the Wisdom of Egypt
- At age 40 Moses killed an Egyptian
- God sent an Angel in the burning bush and promised deliverance for Israel
- God takes his Ecclessia into the wilderness
- Israel rejected Moses and worshiped a golden calf
- Joshua (Yah shall save) led them into the promised land
- David longed to build God a temple but God told David His son would be the house builder
- God does not live in brick buildings he lives in us and Jesus is going to be the master architect of a temple made from living people, the believers
- Israel rebelled against God
- They persecuted the prophets and did not keep the law of Moses
Stephan looked into heaven and said he saw Jesus standing on the right hand of God. This made the priests so angry that they dragged him out of the city and stoned him to death. While Stephan was lying there he said “lay not this sin to there charge”.
Gods Lesson for Us
Even when people are being unkind and cruel to us we must forgive them, even though the way they treat us really hurts. Even though people do not act like Jesus we must act mercifully and gracefully. Even when bad things are happening to us and people bully us, we have a beautiful promise from God who says, “I will never never leave thee or never never forsake thee”.
There once was a man named Barnabas. He was a man of generosity, he sold his land and gave the money to ecclesias. Everyone loved Barnabas and thought he was so great. In that same town was a man and his wife named Ananias and Saphira. They were two wicked and selfish people. They wanted to show the people that they were generous too.
So they decided to sell there land and house and give the money to the poor and needy. When they got all the money it ended up to be about a million dollars so they said “Why don’t we keep just a little bit for ourselves and give the rest to the poor”. So along went Ananias to Peter and said “Ok Peter, this is all the money”. Peter knew he was lying, and said “Are you sure this is all the money Ananias”. Ananias replied and said, “Yes, Yes this is all, take it!”. We don’t know how but he then falls dead to the ground without uttering another word.
Saphira was wondering why her husband had been gone so long and went to Peter. She asked him if he knew where Ananias had gone, but Peter asked her if she had given all the money to him and she to said “Yes, Yes give it away to the ecclesia” and she then, like Ananias fell dead.
Gods Lesson For Us
Do not lie or be Jealous of others, be thankful for what you have and what you are blessed with. Be like the apostle and spread the word!!! Make sure you have loving friends to give you good advise. We should always be truthful in the Ecclesia of God and conduct ourselves honestly.
